Personal information
Jana Besser is a PhD student at the ENT/audiology department of the VUmc. She investigates the influences of cognitive and auditory factors on speech-understanding abilities of hearing-impaired and normal-hearing people and the effects of aging thereon.
Jana has a BSc degree in Computational Linguistics and a MSc degree in Language Science and Technology from the Saarland University (Germany). She spent two years of her bachelor's studies at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden). In 2007 she moved to the Netherlands to write her master's thesis at the University of Amsterdam. During her studies, Jana early developed an interest in scientific research and worked as a research assistant for several years, first at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and later at the Intelligent Systems Lab Amsterdam (ISLA).
