Personal information

Alistair Niemeijer was born on the 4th March 1980 in Hoorn, The Netherlands, to an English mother and a Dutch father.
After his primary and secondary education in Holland he spent 2 years living in England, attending sixth form college in East Sussex and obtaining A-levels in Sociology, German and French and a year working abroad in Israel and the Channel Islands. On his return to the Netherlands, he studied Philosophy at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree there, he enlisted for the Master Applied Ethics at Utrecht University where he graduated cum laude in 2007.

In December 2007 he started as a PhD student at the EMGO institute doing empirical- ethical research into freedom restrictions and (assistive and/or surveillance) technology in the care for elderly with dementia or people with intellectual disabilities.
