CV Martina CORNEL Current position and affiliation:
Martina Cornel, M.D, Ph.D. (♀, 1959) is professor of community genetics and public health genomics at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam. She is a physician and epidemiologist. In recent years she was involved in research on genetic screening criteria, a pilot on preconception screening for cystic fibrosis and hemoglobinopathy, research on genetic education and the international database for rare diseases (Orphanet). She teaches medical students and health science students in the areas of health promotion and large scale applications of genetics & genomics and is involved in postgraduate training in these areas.
She was a member of the Health Council Committees on Neonatal Screening and “Screening between hope and hype” and is chair of the program committee Neonatal Heelprick Screening.
In 2009 Martina Cornel was candidate for the senior societal impact award of the VU University, Amsterdam. Read the background article in Ad Valvas, the University Journal.
