Raymond  Ostelo

Raymond Ostelo is professor of Evidence-Based Physiotherapy at the Department of Health Sciences, VU University, Amsterdam and at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, VU University Medical Centre. He also holds a position as Honorary Professorial Fellow at the Musculoskeletal Division of the George Institute for Global Health (affiliated with University of Sydney, Australia) and at the Physiotherapy Research Group of the University of Bergen, Norway.   

Raymond has a background in physiotherapy and received his Master degree in clinical epidemiology (cum laude) from Maastricht University in 1994. Since the 1997 he is studying musculoskeletal disorders, mainly focusing on effectiveness studies for primary care interventions. In addition to the scientific research in the musculoskeletal field he is involved in clinimetrical research. Since 2013 he is one of the program directors of the Muscoloskeletal Research Program of the EMGO+ Institute. He has been involved in the development of various multi- and mono disciplinary evidence-based guidelines in the field of back pain.

His teaching focuses mainly research methodology for Research Master and PhD students. He is program director of the 2 year Research Master program: Lifestyle and Chronic Disorders. He is the co editor of textbook on research methodology (in Dutch).
