Personal information

Edith Visser

Since December 2016 I work as a junior researcher within the project VoorZorg-Verder at the Department of Public and Occupational Health of the EMGO+ Institute for Health and Care Research at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam.

VoorZorg-Verder is a continuation of the effective prevention VoorZorg and focuses  on the same vulnerable mothers and their children from 2-6 years old. The prevention aims to support and stimulate the development of both mother and child within a safe mother-child relation. In corporation with my colleges I’m developing the prevention in content and design. In addition I’m involved in the effect-study of VoorZorg-Verder.

I am interested in both science and clinical mental health. Therefore I decided to combine the clinical master ‘Child- and Youth Psychology’ and the research master ‘Development and Socialization in Childhood and Adolescence’ at Utrecht.  My master thesis  concerned the effects of parenting on the development of executive functions in referred preschoolers.

Since my graduation in 2012, I’ve had several jobs whereby I was able to combine positions as junior researcher with work in Mental Health Care institutions. I have a specific interest in young children (2-6 years old) with developmental problems. This is a common thread in my career so far.  Currently, I also combine my work at the VU Medical Center with a position as psychologist within the field of infant mental health.
