Bernadette Schutijser is a junior researcher at the department of public and occupational health of the VU medical center. Bernadette is a registered nurse an finished her Master’s degree in 2012 (Clinical Health Sciences, Program Nursing Science).

During this parttime Master program and three years thereafter she worked as a research nurse for two multicenter randomized controlled trials. First, the STERK study (Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam) which focused on the cost-effectiveness of exercise therapy added to general practitioner care for patients with osteoarthritis of the hip. Second, the ESCAPE study (Academic Medical Center Amsterdam) which focused on early surgery versus optimal current step-up practice for patients with chronic pancreatitis.

In September 2015 she joined the research group Safety 4 Patients and started with her research focusing on medication safety in Dutch hospitals. Within this research she collaborates with researchers from the NIVEL (Netherlands institute for health services research).
