Personal information

My name is Ellen Elsman and I'm currently working as a PhD candidate at the department of Ophthalmology at the VU University Medical Centre in Amsterdam. My research is embedded within the EMGO+ institute. I studied Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University, with specialisation Epidemiology and Public Health. Before I became a  PhD candidate, I have worked as a research assistant at various projects and organisations for approximately one year.

From April 2015 until April 2018 I will conduct the following research:

The development of the Dutch Participation and Activity Inventory (PAI) for children, adolescents and young adults with a visual impairment

The purpose of this research is to develop and validate an intake questionnaire to investigate the needs of visually impaired children, adolescents and young adults. Therefore, the target population is divided in 5 age groups according to the WHO recommendations (0-2 years, 3-6 years, 7-12 years, 13-17 years and 18-25 years). Within each age group, 200 participants will be included to test the developed questionnaire. The design of this study is a multicentre, observational cohort studies, in which clients of two Dutch rehabilitation centres are included.

My promoter is Prof. Dr. G.H.M.B. van Rens and my co-promotor is Dr. R.M.A. van Nispen.
