Evi van Ekris

My name is Evi van Ekris  and I’m working as a PhD student at the Department of Public and Occupational Health of the EMGO+ Institute at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam.

My background is in Nutrition Sciences. I completed my Master’s degree in Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University in 2012. After my graduation I worked for short time as a research assistent at the institute for Food and Biobased Research.

In March 2013 I started my PhD research within the study: 'How sickening is sitting?'.
I study young peoples' sedentary behaviour from multiple perspectives, for example: what are the possible health effects  of sitting most of the day? What is happening inside the body during prolonged sitting that can explain these health effects? How can we analyse patterns of sedentary behaviour in children more accurately? And what is the optimal alternation between sitting and being physically active? Because children are the experts of their lives and behaviour, we identify effective strategies for future interventions together with them.
