Sarah van Teeffelen

Sarah van Teeffelen, MSc.

Sarah R. (Fisher) van Teeffelen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with a Certificate of Merit in Education at Randolph-Macon Woman's College (USA) and a Master of Science degree in Biology with an emphasis in Science Communication at Radboud University Nijmegen (NL). She studied abroad at the University of Reading (UK) and obtained her secondary schools teaching license in Pennsylvania (USA). She was selected to participate in the Governor's Institute for Physical Science Educators at Carnegie Mellon University (USA). 

Having taught science for many years at schools in the US, the UK and the Netherlands, Sarah made the switch to research as a student assistant at the Centre for Society and Genomics in Nijmegen. There she worked on the projects "Future of ELSA Genomics" (CSG, Dr. Peter Stegmaier) and "Visions of Interaction" (Institute for Science, Innovation & Society, Dr. Annemiek Nelis & Dr. Maud Radstake) and assisted with the CSG conference "Ten Years After" and CSG's AllesOverDNA.nl website.

At present she holds the position of Junior Researcher on the CSG project "Wealth of Data? Blurring boundaries and user roles at the interface of medical, genetic and personal information", at the VU University Medical Center's Department of Clinical Genetics (section Community Genetics) / EMGO Institute. The Principal Investigator on this project is Prof. Dr. Martina Cornel; other team members are Dr. Carla van El (Project Leader VUmc), Dr. Maud Radstake (Project Leader CSG), and Dr. Conor Douglas (Senior Researcher).

Research interests include genetic screening, history, philosophy & sociology of biology, STS / ELSA genomics and biology curriculum development. Hobbies include Girl Scouting and backyard fruit cultivation .
