Joana  Kist-van Holthe tot Echten

Joana Kist-van Holthe MD PhD is a pediatrician with a passion for research. After 25 years clinical experience as a pediatric nephrologist and as an allround pediatrician, she decided it was time to change her career and spend more time on research. Her primary interest is Childhood Public Health.

In 2010 she started to work with Remy HiraSing, Professor Youth Care at the department of Public and Occupational Health, EMGO Institute - VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Currently she participates in research mainly pertaining to obesity (and hypertension) in childhood furthermore she is involved in the development of a guideline for pediatricians about cardiovascular risk in obese children. She is the coordinator of the Dutch Pediatric Surveillance Unit which is part of the Dutch Pediatric Association. Whenever possible she also works for Medecins Sans Frontieres.

In the past she had the opportunity to work for two years at Childrens' Hospital (Harvard) in Boston performing laboratory research in transplantation immunology.

Her thesis "Protein restriction in children with chronic renal failure" was completed in 1993 at Sophia Kinderziekenhuis / ErasmusMC Rotterdam.
