Hanne van  Ballegooijen

Short biography

Hanne van Ballegooijen is a post-doc at the deparment of Health Sciences at the VU University. She is trained as a nutritionist and epidemiologist and obtained her Master’s degree from the Wageningen University, the Netherlands. In 2014, she received her PhD from the VU University Amsterdam in which she studied several national and international cohort studies to assess associations of vitamin D and parathyroid hormone in relation to underlying mechanisms of cardiovascular health. She received a Niels Stensen Fellowship and worked at the Kidney Research Institute at the University of Washington in Seattle to study nutritional determinants and cardiovascular disease risk in chronic kidney disease patients. 

Her research interests include nutrition and lifestyle determinants in the etiology of chronic diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases. She has a particular interest in how mineral metabolism disturbances affect cardiovascular disease risk.

During the last years, she gained extensive experience in doing independent and collaborative research including, statistical analyses and interpretation of data, drafting scientific manuscripts and presentation of research findings at national and international conferences.
