Jolanda Maas is a senior researcher at the Department of Public and Occupational Health, EMGO Institute, VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
She completed her Masters in Sociology at the Utrecht University in Utrecht in 2002. After graduating she worked at Arbeid en Opleidingen Consult in Tilburg where she investigated questions concerning the labour market and professional and adult education.
In 2003 she started working at NIVEL (Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research) where she worked on several projects before she started working on her PhD thesis in 2005 about the relation between the amount of green space in the living environment and health. In 2009 she finished her thesis.
Currently she investigates the relation between the environment and health. Her studies focus on how neighbourhood public spaces should be designed to stimulate physical activity and on the relation between green space and health.
