Starting date: 01/03/2012

There is little understanding of which intercurrent health problems and symptoms in patients with dementia generally encounter during NH stay, how they are diagnosed and treated, and how they relate to survival or other outcome. Such understanding of the clinical course and practice is important, for example as the base for physician’s prognostication and optimal advance care planning and decision making regarding resuscitation, hospitalization, tube feeding, rehydration, antibiotics, palliative care actions.
