Evaluation of Medical Team Training based on Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles at Intensive Care Unit (WC2007-051)

Background

Starting date: 01/03/2009
Implementation of TRM in health care had been recommended, both nationally and internationally, as a method to establish improvements in patient safety. Originally, TRM was developed by the Department of Defence of the USA and the aviation industry in the 1980s. Its purpose is to enhance and improve the use of a person's non technical skills (e.g. teamwork and situational awareness) for these skills appeared to be very often related to unsafe situations. The same accounts for unintended events in health care. TRM typically includes educating teams about the limitations of human performance.
