Prevention of anxiety and depression in homes for the elderly: a stepped care approach (WC2005-005)

Background

Starting date: 01/05/2006 Many residents of homes for the elderly develop anxiety or depressive disorders, particularly those who already have symptoms of the disorders, but not yet the condition itself.  As anxiety and depressive disorders are very disabling condtions, it is important to  study interventions that might help to prevent these disorders. In developing and providing these interventions, it should be taken into account that the care condition of many residents has gradually worsened over the years, as most elderly persons wish to stay at home for as long as possible.
