Development and effectiveness of an implementation strategy of a protocol depression for insurance physicians (WC2006-004)
Background
Starting date: 01/08/2007 The Dutch Health Council developed ten diagnosis-specific protocols to be used by insurance physicians. These protocols were implemented top down at the National Institute for Employee Benefits Schemes (UWV) within the period of a year. When more attention could have been paid to the implementation of the protocols, one can expect that the insurance physicians would be more inclined to use these protocols. To that end we wanted to test the hypothesis that the protocols could be implemented in a different way, in order to improve adoption of the protocols by the insurance physicians in daily practice. We choose the protocol depression because depression is the major cause of long-term sick leave as registered by UWV.
