Exploring pathways between environmental and individual factors in the explanation of overweight and obesogenic behaviours

Main objective

The main aim of the study is to explore theory-driven mediating and moderating pathways between personal and environmental factors and their association with energy balance-related behaviours among youth and adults using available international state-of-the-art datasets.

Specific objectives

  1. Explore the pathways between environmental and personal factors in the explanation of energy balance-related behaviours and BMI through moderation and mediation analyses using structural equation modelling and multi-level analyses.
  2. Extend the theoretical basis for studying the interplay between individual level factors and obesogenic environmental factors as determinants of energy balance-related behaviours, and overweight and obesity
  3. Inform intervention development for obesity-prevention programs
