Exploring pathways between environmental and individual factors in the explanation of overweight and obesogenic behaviours

Methods

Study design

Existing state-of-the-art cross-sectional and longitudinal observational studies, from the Netherlands and Australia: GLOBE, ENDORSE, HEAPS and SESAW

Study population

For GLOBE, the study sample consists of adults living in Eindhoven and surroundings, the Netherlands. The SESAW study includes adult women living in Melbourne, Australia. The ENDORSE includes adolescents from secondary schools in Rotterdam and the HEAPS study includes children aged 10-12 years old living in Melbourne, Australia

Instruments

The four studies used different instruments to measure dietary intake, physical activity, sedentary behaviours, individual-level determinants derived from the Theory of Planned Behaviour or Social Cognitive Theory, but all relied on self reports except for the objectively measured physical environment.
