Promotion of vegetable and fruit consumption of schoolchildren – PRO GREENS

Objectives

Main objective

The general objectives of this European project are to develop and evaluate an effective intervention to promote fruit and vegetable consumption among European school children and to assess the level of fruit and vegetable consumption in children before and after this school-based intervention. In the Netherlands, the aim is to assess levels of fruit and vegetable consumption among 11-year-olds and again one year later, without the implementation of the intervention.

Specific objectives

1. Prepare questionnaires, based on the validated Pro Children questionnaires
2. Perform a baseline measurement among 900 11-year-old children in the Netherlands, assessing their fruit and vegetable intake and related factors
3. Perform a follow-up survey one year later among the same pupils
4. Analyse the data in terms of consumption levels, determinants of fruit and vegetable intake and changes over time, and relate this with school policies.
